Freesnapp Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 28, 2026
This page publishes our official Privacy Policy for the Freesnapp mobile app, for your reference.
This Privacy Policy explains how Kenneth John V. Saracho ("we", "us"), developer of the Freesnapp mobile application (the "App"), handles information when you use the App and its supporting scan service (together, the "Service").
The Short Version
- No account. The App works without sign-up, email, or password.
- Your financial data lives only on your device. We hold no copy of it and cannot see it.
- Scanning sends text by default. Only extracted text (or, for PDF scans, the file for one-time text extraction) reaches our server for AI processing. Images are sent only if you switch on the optional image-scanning setting, and either way we do not store them.
- No ads. No selling of data. Ever.
1. Data Stored Only on Your Device (Not Collected by Us)
Everything you record in the App (wallets, expenses, income, loans, transfers, savings, budgets, goals, recurring payments, scan history, profile name and photo, and preferences) is stored locally on your device in an on-device database and app storage. This data is not transmitted to us, and we have no access to it.
Because of this design, we cannot recover your data. Uninstalling the App or using its data-clearing tools deletes it. Depending on your device settings, your device's operating system may include app data in device-level backups (for example, Android device backup to your Google account); any such backup is governed by your device provider's terms, not by us.
2. What Happens When You Scan
Scanning a receipt or payslip works like this:
- Photos: text recognition runs on your device, and by default only the extracted text is sent to our scan server. The photo itself stays on your device.
- Optional: "Scan the image directly". This setting is off by default and available on Pro. When you switch it on, the photo is also sent to our scan server and forwarded to our AI provider for that scan, so the document can be read directly rather than only from the text your device could recognise. The image is used solely to process that scan, is not stored by us, and is discarded after processing. You can switch this off at any time in Settings → Scan.
- PDFs: the PDF file is uploaded to our scan server, its text is extracted there, and the file is discarded after processing. It is not stored.
- The extracted text, and the photo if you switched on image scanning, is forwarded to our AI provider (Google's Gemini API), acting as our service provider under its API terms, to structure it into fields (amount, date, merchant, category, and similar).
- The structured result is returned to your device, where you review, edit, and decide whether to save it. Saving happens locally only.
We do not store your document text, images, or files on our servers. Server-side records of a scan are limited to the technical metadata described in Section 3.
3. Data We Do Collect (Scan Service)
To enforce scan quotas and keep the Service safe, our server keeps a minimal set of technical data:
- Anonymous identifier: a randomly generated ID for your app installation (also used by our subscription provider). It is not your name, email address, or phone number, and we cannot use it to identify you.
- Quota counters: the number of scan tokens used and period rollover dates. A scan normally costs one token; a scan that the attached image is what resolved costs two.
- Scan logs: per scan, the timestamp, outcome (success, failed, or rejected), document type, model and prompt version, token/cost figures, whether an image was included, and technical capture-quality measurements (such as blur and brightness readings). Where a step fails, we record the error's status code and type only. No document content.
- Request logs: standard technical data such as IP address, request identifiers, and device user-agent, used for security, rate limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging.
We use this data to operate the features you request and to protect the Service from abuse, fraud, and overuse (our legitimate interests). Quota counters persist for as long as needed to enforce limits; scan and request logs are retained for up to twelve (12) months and then deleted or anonymized. This data is hosted with our infrastructure providers (currently Supabase, on PostgreSQL).
4. Purchases and Subscriptions
Payments are processed by your app store (for example, Google Play). Subscription status is verified through RevenueCat using the same anonymous identifier. We receive only entitlement information (for example, "Pro active") and related purchase metadata from the store. We never receive your name, billing address, or payment card details. The store's and RevenueCat's own privacy policies apply to their processing.
5. Analytics and Crash Reporting
The App uses privacy-conscious analytics and crash reporting to fix bugs and improve features:
- Crash and error reporting (Sentry): device model, operating system and App version, and technical error traces when something breaks.
- Usage analytics (PostHog): anonymous, high-level events such as "scan completed" or "paywall viewed", with technical properties limited to counts, booleans, and preset values.
Analytics events never contain your financial data. There are no amounts, merchant names, notes, category names, or document content.
6. Sharing
We share data only with the service providers named in this Policy (AI processing, hosting, subscription management, analytics, and crash reporting), strictly to operate the Service. We may also disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to protect our rights, our users, or the public. If the App or our business is transferred, data may be transferred to the successor under this same Policy. We do not sell personal data, and the App contains no advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.
7. International Transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours (including the United States). Where required, such transfers rely on the safeguards offered by those providers. By using the App's online features, you understand that the technical data described above will be processed where these providers operate.
8. Security
Traffic between the App and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Your financial data never leaves your device except as described in Section 2. Optional backups you create are encrypted with AES using a password only you know. We never receive your export files or passwords and cannot recover them. No system is perfectly secure, and to the maximum extent permitted by law we cannot guarantee absolute security; you are responsible for securing your own device.
9. Your Rights and Choices
- Your local data is fully in your control. You can view, edit, delete, or export everything in the App, and erase it entirely with the App's data-clearing tools or by uninstalling.
- Depending on where you live, for example under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173) or the EU/UK GDPR, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, object to, or port personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in the Philippines, the National Privacy Commission).
- A practical note: because our server-side data is tied only to an anonymous identifier, we generally cannot determine which records belong to you, and may therefore be unable to fulfill requests that would require identifying you. This is a deliberate privacy-by-design limitation, not a refusal. Contact us and we will assist where technically possible.
10. Children
The App is not directed at children and is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the Service, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date shows the latest version, and material changes will be communicated in the App or on our website. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means the updated Policy applies.
